Gerald Richard "Dick" Shaw

C’est avec une profonde tristesse que la famille annonce le décès de M. Gerald Richard « Dick » Shaw, à l'age de 82 ans, domicilié à Edmundston, fils de feu M. Earl J. Shaw et de feu Mme Marguerite Guerrette..

Il laisse dans la peine mais également avec de merveilleux souvenirs, ses enfants : Todd Shaw, Kevin Shaw et Karen Shaw, ses petits-enfants : Damon Shaw, McKenzie Shaw et Malick Shaw, ses sœurs : Jean Bossé Brown et Marilyn Blais (Yvan Blais), sa belle-soeur Patricia Shaw (feu Tim) ainsi que son ex-épouse Claudette. Il repose maintenant auprès de ses parents ainsi que son frère Tim Shaw.

Une Célébration aura lieu le samedi 8 août 2026, à 15 h à la Résidence funéraire Bellavance avec l’inhumation au cimetière l’Immaculée-Conception à Edmundston.

La famille de M. Gerald Richard « Dick » Shaw accueillera parents et ami(e)s à compter de 13 h samedi le 8 août 2026, à la Résidence funéraire Bellavance du 153 chemin Canada à Edmundston. Les heures de visites seront de 13 h à 15 h soit l’heure de la Célébration.

Dick a consacré une grande partie de sa vie au service public ainsi qu’au sport communautaire.  Dans ses jeunes années, il a été très impliqué dans le milieu sportif d’Edmundston.

Durant les années 1970 et 1980, il a été propriétaire de l’équipe de hockey senior Edmundston Eskimos, en plus d’en être le directeur général et dirigeant. Il a également été entraîneur de hockey et bâtisseur dans les ligues locales, ainsi qu’entraîneur et organisateur de baseball au sein des programmes de baseball senior.

Par son engagement et son leadership, Dick a grandement contribué au développement et à la promotion du sport organisé dans la région d’Edmundston.

En reconnaissance de ses contributions, il a été intronisé au Temple de la Renommée Sportive d’Edmundston à titre de bâtisseur en hockey et en baseball.

Dick a également eu une carrière distinguée au sein du Gouvernement du Canada, occupant des postes de direction dans plusieurs ministères, notamment le ministère de la Justice, Affaires indiennes et du Nord canadien (AINC), le Bureau du surintendant des faillites, ainsi qu’Industrie Canada, où il a occupé le poste de directeur général.

Il a pris sa retraite après une longue et respectée carrière dans la Fonction Publique Fédérale.

Dick sera souvenu pour son dévouement envers sa famille et sa communauté. Ses contributions au service public ainsi qu’au sport local ont laissé une empreinte durable à Edmundston et ailleurs.

Son souvenir restera vivant dans le cœur de ceux et celles qu’il a touchés par son travail, son leadership et son engagement communautaire.

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Mr. Gerald Richard "Dick" Shaw, at the age of 82 years, resident of Edmundston, son of the late Mr. Earl J. Shaw and the late Mrs. Marguerite Guerrette..

He leaves behind, with sorrow but also with wonderful memories, his children: Todd Shaw, Kevin Shaw, and Karen Shaw; his grandchildren: Damon Shaw, McKenzie Shaw, and Malick Shaw; his sisters: Jean Bossé Brown and Marilyn Blais (Yvan Blais), his sister-in-law Patricia Shaw (late Tim) as well as his ex-wife Claudette. He now rests alongside his parents and his brother Tim Shaw.

A Celebration will take place on August 8, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the Bellavance Funeral Home, with interment at l'Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Edmundston.

The family of Mr. Gerald Richard "Dick" Shaw will welcome relatives and friends at the Bellavance Funeral Home at 153 Canada Street in Edmundston. Visiting hours will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, which is the time of the Celebration.

Dick devoted much of his life to both public service and community sport.
In his earlier years, he was deeply involved in the Edmundston sports community.

During the 1970's and 1980's, he served as the owner of the Edmundston Eskimos senior hockey team, as well as its general manager and team executive. He was also active as a hockey coach and builder in local leagues, and contributed as a baseball coach and organizer within senior baseball programs.

Through his dedication and leadership, Dick played a significant role in the development and promotion of organized sports in the Edmundston region.

In recognition of his contributions, he was later inducted into the Edmundston Sports Hall of Fame as a builder in hockey and baseball.

Dick also had a distinguished career in the Government of Canada, serving in senior roles across multiple departments, including the Department of Justice, Indian Affairs and Northern Development (DIAND), the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy, and Industry Canada, where he served as a Director General.

He retired after a long and respected career in Federal Public Service.

Dick will be remembered for his dedication to his family and his community. His contributions to both public service and local sport left a lasting impact in Edmundston and beyond.

His memory will lived on in the lives he touched through his work, leadership, and commitment to community development.
